About the customer

GastroSocial is the social insurance for the restaurant and hotel industry. Today, more than 20,000 restaurants and hotels with around 170,000 insured persons are members.

 

This includes a compensation fund and a pension fund, which have been operating together since 2005. 9 out of 10 companies in the Swiss catering industry are affiliated to this fund. In addition, daily sickness benefits and accident insurance are offered in cooperation with SWICA.

The project

GastroSocial previously had an outdated intranet based on SharePoint 2010. As this no longer met modern standards and the clarity and structure were not optimal, the social insurance company wanted a new, modern and appealing intranet based on SharePoint 2016.

 

After examining the requirements and an intensive evaluation process, the framework Wizdom with innobit prevailed, which extends the functions of SharePoint and provides practical web parts out-of-the-box in many areas.

 

The solution focuses on the following areas

 

  • Uniform, appealing design for an optimal user experience
  • Focus on start page (see screenshots): important news centrally placed; further news to the right and left of it incl. notifications, display of current birthdays & anniversaries: people search for quickly finding employees
  • Structural conception & strategic management of content (governance)
  • Global dashboard for an improved overview
  • Collaboration through project & workspaces: Storage of project-related documents: Project information and contact details/team members at a glance
  • Integration of each individual employee into the information flow

In a first step, the focus was on creating an appealing and uniform design for the new intranet. In cooperation with a design agency, the design possibilities of SharePoint and Wizdom were explored and a concept was developed that met GastroSocial's requirements. The design was to be consistent across all pages, regardless of whether it was a news item or a workspace.

 

In further steps, the start page and all content pages were designed, structured and implemented. Content pages include knowledge pages, organization chart, employee list (automatic synchronization for personnel changes), etc. Finally, the collaboration part was tackled, in which work / project and team rooms were created for the individual groups.

 

A global dashboard allows users to view all their associated rooms and important information (metadata).

 

With the realignment of the intranet, innobit has made a significant contribution to the modernization of internal communication at GastroSocial. Not only is information on projects much easier to view, it is now also easier to search for topic experts and exchange information between employees. The most important news is available at a glance; every individual in the organization is integrated into the information flow.

Our new intranet "KIWI" combines collaboration, information, knowledge and ideas on one platform. Thanks to in-house developments and our cooperative partner innobit, we are more than satisfied with the current solution.
